As a teacher, one of the first things I will mention in any course is the concept of failing at ceramics and how it can be profoundly beneficial to your artistic practice. As an artist I cannot count the times I have failed, and failed and failed again - there are just too many! but I can say, that there are an equal amount of times I have dusted myself off, and got back on the horse (or wheel).

Go down that rabbit hole, cut that pot open, push it to its limits. See what you and the material are capable of. This is how "happy accidents" are made.
I wonder if you've heard about the great plate saga of 2021? I had an order for a dinner set and I thought to myself "How hard could that be?". lol - famous last words. I made about 50 plates and had less than 50% success rate. Honestly, I felt like such a dud. I made a video here which explains it all. After I posted that, I went deep down the rabbit hole of investigation and discovered a much better technique for plate making that I still use today.

But then I remember I have a "special" knack for finding things out the hard way and that there is a reason for all this. And if you haven't suffered, have you even tried?
