Terms of service

 

All of my ceramic wares are handmade here in Melbourne. That means that no two are exactly the same. Sometimes the image you see is an example of the product, not the exact product you are buying, so small differences will be evident. I use high quality Australian clay and glazes and everything is food safe, dishwasher, microwave and oven safe unless otherwise stated. 

Ceramics Classes - Thornbury Studio - Terms and Conditions

1. Booking & Payment

  • Full payment is required at the time of booking to secure your place.
  • Bookings are refundable up to 2 weeks before the start date of the course.
  • If cancellation occurs within 2 weeks of the start date, the booking becomes non-refundable, but you may:transfer your place to another term, or transfer your place to another person attending in your place (for the full 4-week course).
  • No partial refunds are available once the course has begun.

2. Missed Lessons & Rescheduling

  • If you cannot attend a class, please notify me at least 48 hours in advance.
  • With 48+ hours notice, your class may be rescheduled depending on studio availability — please get in touch to arrange a suitable time.
  • Missed lessons with less than 48 hours’ notice cannot be rescheduled or refunded.
  • No credits are offered for unattended sessions unless prior arrangements have been agreed.
  • If you are enrolled in a 1:2 bring-a-friend class and one participant cannot attend, the class will be rescheduled to a time that works for both participants. Individual sessions will not be held if only one participant can attend — both students must be present for the lesson to proceed. Please provide at least 48 hours’ notice to arrange a reschedule.

3. Health & Safety

  • Closed-toe shoes must be worn in the studio.
  • Long hair should be tied back and loose sleeves secured.
  • Please follow all safety instructions when using tools, equipment and materials.
  • If you are unwell, please stay home — but be aware the 48-hour notice policy still applies.

4. Working in a Home Studio

  • The Thornbury studio is part of a private residence — please arrive and leave at your scheduled times.
  • Pets are not permitted during class for safety reasons.
  • Please be considerate of neighbours when entering and exiting the property.

5. Materials, Tools & Firing

  • All materials, tools, equipment and firings are included.
  • Firing includes a reasonable number of pieces. Oversized work or large quantities may incur an additional fee.
  • Ceramic outcomes vary and occasional cracking/warping can occur — this is part of the process and not the responsibility of the studio.

6. Collecting Your Finished Work

  • Finished pieces will be ready approximately 3–5 weeks after your final class.
  • You will be contacted when your work is ready for pickup.
  • Please collect within 4 weeks of notification, as storage space is limited. Uncollected work may be donated or discarded.

7. Photos & Media

  • Photos or short videos may be taken during class for promotional use.
  • If you prefer not to be photographed, just let me know at your first session.

8. Liability

  • Pottery involves tools, equipment, water and slippery surfaces.
  • By joining the course, you agree to follow all safety instructions and accept responsibility for your own safety while in the studio.
  • The studio is not liable for injuries resulting from misuse of equipment or unsafe behaviour.

9. Respect & Conduct

  • This is a calm, welcoming studio space.
  • Disrespectful, aggressive or unsafe behaviour will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the course without refund. LGBTI community are safe here.

Kiln Firing Terms and Conditions

ADELE MACER CERAMICS

K6 TETLOW KILN HIRE TERMS & CONDITIONS

1. Agreement

By booking a firing in the Adele Macer Ceramics K6 Tetlow kiln ("the Kiln"), the hirer agrees to these Terms & Conditions in full.

2. Full Kiln Loads Only

  • The Kiln is available for hire as a full kiln load only.

  • Shared firings are not available unless expressly offered by Adele Macer Ceramics.

  • The hirer is responsible for supplying sufficient work to fill the booked kiln load.

3. Kiln Firing Service

  • Adele Macer Ceramics provides a kiln firing service only.

  • The hirer remains solely responsible for the suitability, construction, drying, glazing, decoration and firing requirements of all work submitted.

  • Adele Macer Ceramics does not guarantee firing outcomes and accepts no responsibility for defects resulting from clay bodies, glazes, application methods, construction methods, drying practices or firing instructions supplied by the hirer.

4. Hirer's Responsibilities

The hirer warrants that:

  • All work submitted is completely dry.

  • All clay bodies and glazes are suitable for the requested firing temperature.

  • No work contains enclosed air pockets, combustible materials or foreign objects.

  • All firing information supplied is accurate and complete.

  • The work has been properly prepared and is suitable for firing.

Adele Macer Ceramics reserves the right to refuse any work considered unsafe, unsuitable or likely to damage the kiln, kiln furniture or other work.

5. Firing Schedule

  • Firing temperatures and schedules must be agreed upon before firing.

  • Special firing schedules may incur additional fees.

  • Adele Macer Ceramics reserves the right to decline any firing request outside the normal operating range of the kiln.

6. Risk of Loss or Damage

  • All work is fired entirely at the owner's risk.

  • Ceramic firing is inherently unpredictable and outcomes cannot be guaranteed.

  • Work may crack, warp, explode, blister, craze, pinhole, stick to kiln shelves or otherwise fail during firing.

  • Adele Macer Ceramics accepts no responsibility for loss of, or damage to, ceramic work arising from the firing process.

7. Damage to Kiln or Equipment

The hirer is liable for all costs associated with damage caused by their work, including but not limited to:

  • Glaze runs or drips onto kiln shelves.

  • Explosions caused by damp or improperly prepared work.

  • Damage to kiln elements, thermocouples, kiln furniture or the kiln chamber.

  • Additional labour required for cleaning, repairs or replacement.

The hirer agrees to pay all repair, replacement and cleaning costs associated with damage caused by their work before or upon collection of their fired work. Adele Macer Ceramics reserves the right to withhold release of fired work until all outstanding amounts have been paid in full.

8. Inspection and Loading

  • Adele Macer Ceramics reserves the right to inspect all work before loading.

  • Work may be rejected if it is considered unsafe, unsuitable or likely to cause damage.

  • Adele Macer Ceramics will determine the final loading arrangement to ensure kiln safety and efficient firing.

9. Collection and Uncollected Work

  • Finished work must be collected within 60 days of notification that firing has been completed.

  • Adele Macer Ceramics is not responsible for loss of or damage to work left after notification of collection.

  • Any work not collected within 60 days may be disposed of, recycled, donated or otherwise removed without compensation to the hirer.

10. Payment

  • Full payment is required before firing unless otherwise agreed in writing.

  • Bookings are not confirmed until payment has been received.

  • Any additional charges arising under these Terms & Conditions must be paid before or upon collection of the fired work.

11. Cancellations

  • Cancellations made more than 7 days before the scheduled firing may receive a refund less any administrative costs incurred.

  • Cancellations within 7 days of the scheduled firing may result in forfeiture of part or all of the booking fee.

12. Commercial Production and Timeframes

  • Adele Macer Ceramics does not guarantee that a firing will be completed by any specific date or deadline.

  • Adele Macer Ceramics accepts no liability for losses arising from delayed firings, kiln malfunction, power outages, equipment failure, firing defects or failed firings.

  • Adele Macer Ceramics is not responsible for missed markets, exhibitions, wholesale orders, commissions, classes, events or any other commercial opportunities resulting from delays or firing outcomes.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Adele Macer Ceramics shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, damage or expense arising from the kiln firing service.

Any liability of Adele Macer Ceramics shall be limited to the amount paid by the hirer for the firing service.

14. Acknowledgement

By submitting work for firing, the hirer acknowledges that ceramic firing involves inherent risks and that all work is submitted for firing entirely at the hirer's own risk. The hirer confirms that they have read, understood and agree to these Terms & Conditions.
