Adele Macer Ceramics Studio, Thornbury
Early Bird / Introductory Price: $795
Standard Price: $850
Maximum 3 students
Already know your way around clay and want the freedom to make the things you actually want to make?
This 8-week intermediate ceramics course is designed for you.
Rather than making the same project as everyone else, you'll bring your own ideas, projects and creative goals to the studio and spend eight weeks developing them with the support of experienced potter Adele Macer.
You'll have 20 hours of dedicated studio time to experiment, refine your skills, work through tricky ideas and make at your own pace — with Adele there to offer personalised guidance, demonstrate techniques, troubleshoot problems and help you take your work further.
A tiny group. Your projects. Plenty of guidance.
This course is intentionally kept to a tiny group of just three students, so you get plenty of individual attention from Adele while still having the energy and inspiration of working alongside other makers.
It's a small, relaxed studio environment where you can work on your own projects with personalised guidance from an experienced potter.
There’s no prescribed project and no expectation that everyone will be making the same thing.
You decide what you want to make.
You might come with a project you've been dreaming about, a technique you want to master, a form you want to explore — or simply a head full of ideas and no idea where to start.
We'll work it out together.
What happens over the 8 weeks?
WEEK 1 — Induction, Ideas & Planning
We'll begin with a studio safety induction and an introduction to the studio, including:
-
Studio safety and procedures
-
Overview of clay, tools and materials
-
Understanding the studio equipment and workspace
-
Discussion and review of your project ideas
-
Planning what you'd like to work on throughout the course
We'll look at your ideas, work out what's achievable within the course and make a plan for your projects.
WEEKS 2–7 — Your Studio Time
This is where the fun really begins.
These are student-led sessions, meaning you decide what you want to work on.
Adele will be there throughout the session to provide personalised guidance, demonstrations, feedback and troubleshooting whenever you need it.
You might be:
-
Developing a particular form or technique
-
Working on a series of pieces
-
Experimenting with different construction methods
-
Refining skills you've already learned
-
Trying something completely new
Your projects. Your ideas. Your pace.
WEEK 8 — Glazing Day
Once you've made your pieces, we'll finish the course with a dedicated glazing session.
You'll have access to a selection of Adele Macer Ceramics studio glazes, with guidance on choosing and applying glazes to your work.
Then it's off to the kiln!
Your finished work will be ready for collection approximately 2–4 weeks after the course finishes. You'll receive a notification when your pieces have been fired and are ready to collect.
